Wiesbaden
Health facilities
Wiesbaden has an illustrious history as a health resort. Even the Romans sought fortification for their campaigns in its 26 therapeutic thermal springs. At the end of the 19th century Wiesbaden was one of the most visited health resorts in the world. It retained its reputation as a classic spa town until the 1930s and is today widely respected for its high-quality health facilities, which range from attractive thermal baths through a wide spectrum of hospitals and rehabilitation clinics specialising in orthopaedics and rheumatology.
Two establishments are the main attraction for spa visitors: the modern, stylish Aukammtal thermal baths offer a spacious bathing area, an extensive sauna suite and a wide range of massages, therapies and beauty treatments. The Kaiser Friedrich spa, an Irish- Roman bath, combines a fabulous sauna area with a wide variety of health treatments including massage, an oriental-style Rasul steam bath, a sand bath, soft packs and beauty treatments.
Wiesbaden highlights
There are many other reasons for treating yourself to a break in Wiesbaden, the "Nice of the north" - its busy events calendar, attractive architecture, spacious parks, grand tree-lined avenues, great shopping, international cuisine and fabulous night life. Wiesbaden's historical spa assembly rooms contain an international events centre and one of the most beautiful casinos in Europe. Neroberg hill is a popular excursion destination offering wonderful views over the city and the Rhine-Main area. It is also an ideal starting point for walks and other activities in the Wiesbaden park. Wiesbaden is often referred to as the "gateway to the Rheingau", one of Germany's most delightful and most traditional wine growing areas, which is only a stone's throw from the city.
Accommodation
Wiesbaden offers a wide range of accommodation, ranging from affordable, family-run guest houses to internationally renowned five-star hotels. Wiesbaden Tourist Service arranges wellness breaks all year round.
Location and travel
Wiesbaden, the capital of Hessen, is in the heart of Germany, at the centre of the Rhine-Main region. Excellent connections with the autobahn and Intercity Express train network, as well as proximity to Frankfurt and Hahn airports, make travelling to Wiesbaden very straightforward.
