Nature is the loveliest Fairytale of them all

Map of the river Weser from Hannoversch Münden to Minden
The Weser´s life begins with "a kiss" in Hannoversch Münden, where the two source rivers, the Fulda end the Werra, embrace. Hannoversch Münden, enchantingly embedded in the foothills of the romantic Weserbergland region, became famous chiefly as the half-timbered jewel on Germany`s "Half-timbered House Scenic Route". Starting from here you can follow the course of the Weser, giving you a choice between boat and canoe, or bike on the Weser Cycle Route. Through one of the original forests, the North Hessian Reinhardswald, you will be on your way to Sleeping Beauty's castle, the Sababurg. The castle is also a romantic hotel with the added attractions of a zoo and bird of prey centre as well as the SabaBurgTheatre. At the neighbouring Trendelburg castle you can enjoy sumptuous Knights´ Feasts in a medieval atmosphere. When you return to the riverbanks of the Weser, you will be on your way to the former Huguenot town of Bad Karlshafen, where the main sights are the baroque town centre with the German Huguenot Museum.

Hansel and Gretel at the Weser

Statue of Baron von Münchhausen sitting on the front half of his horse
In the charming town of Höxter, the striking half-timbered façades of the burghers´ townhouses provide the backdrop for the well-known Hansel and Gretel Plays on the first Saturday of the month during the summer. And, as a contrast to your visit to Corvey Castle, the former imperial abbey, you can fling yourself into the fun and games at the Höxter leisure park. In Bodenwerder, the home town of the famous German fairy tale figure, Baron von Münchhausen (see picture), you are warmly invited to Münchhausen Manor and its museum. Then at nearby Hämelschenburg Palace you can discover a highlight of the Weser Renaissance architectural style.

Wellness in the Centre of the Weser Hills

Two historical Weser Renaissance buildings in Hamlyn: the canons' house and Gerd Leist's house
The centre of the Weserbergland region is Hamlyn, where the trail of the fairytale character "The Pied Piper of Hamlyn" takes you to the most important sights. From 19 May to 15 September, the Pied Piper story is re-enacted in the open-air every Sunday at 12 noon. There is also a great deal to experience in the state spa town of Oeynhausen apart from the relaxing wellness offers. For children, a visit to the Fairytale Museum is of special interest, but also the "Aqua Magica" waterpark or a tour on the miniature children`s train, the Wolkenschieber-Bahn. But also the magnificent historic buildings or things futuristic, such as the "Energie Forum Innovation" are worth a visit.
