Travelling by rail

Deutsche Bahn, the German rail operator, offers various types of assistance for passengers with restricted mobility and/or disabilities. These can be booked through the Mobility Service Centre.

The Mobility Service Centre has information on timetables and station facilities, but can also provide actual platform assistance (bookable in advance) to passengers wishing to board, disembark from, or change trains. You can contact the Mobility Service Centre 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by calling: +49 (0)180 551 2512, or faxing +49 (0)180 515 9357 (calls cost €0.14 per min. from German landlines via Arcor, mobile charges vary), or alternatively online.

Seh-Netz e.V.'s mobility portal for travellers with disabilities has a directory of train stations, where visitors to the site (currently only available in German) can find detailed information on levels of accessibility at many of Germany's train stations, plus extremely useful route descriptions for blind and partially-sighted people.
