Travelling by air

Germany's location at the heart of Europe makes it easily accessible by air, with more than 100 international airlines flying into German airports. This page contains information on some of the assistance on offer from certain airlines and larger airports for travellers with restricted mobility.

Lufthansa

Lufthansa actively supports people with restricted mobility, offering help and advice on travel preparations as well as assistance at the start and destination airport, plus extensive other information, for example on medicines and healthcare. Frequent flyers with restricted mobility can benefit from a Frequent Traveller's Medical Card (FREMEC).
 

Air Berlin

Air Berlin also provides assistance to people with restricted mobility. More details can be obtained from the relevant service centre.

At Frankfurt airport, services and assistance for travellers with disabilities and/or restricted mobility are available free of charge. To obtain them, please register either with your tour operator or airline at least 48 hours before the start of your journey.

Munich Airport

Munich airport is also well-prepared for travellers with restricted mobility and/or disabilities, with trained staff on hand to ensure that your journey goes off without a hitch. Registration is required, either at the time of booking or at least 48 hours before the start of your journey. Berlin-Schönefeld and Berlin-Tegel Airports

At both Berlin-Schönefeld and Berlin-Tegel airports, extensive support is available for travellers with restricted mobility and/or disabilities, including assistance with checking in and out and with moving luggage, a personal escort through passport control and customs, and transport to the aircraft or the arrivals area.
